As artists and explorers, we are inspired by captivating stories told by authentic human beings. We create meaningful connections with them and then translate their stories into a cinematic experience.

During our journeys to remote destinations of Colombia, we collect images and sounds to create short films and visual experiments. This enables us to keep improving our craft as filmmakers and to experience the cultural richness of our world.

On the Colombian Pacific coast, where Afro communities have settled since colonial times, a tradition remains since ancient times. Through their navel, newborn children receive the mystical powers of nature in a ritual called the Ombligada. In an 8-minute documentary guided by local teacher Nohelia, the viewer is immersed in this mystical story full of spiritual meaning and cultural relevance. Also, for the first time ever on screen, people are able to see the tradition being practiced on a new born baby.

This was the first project produced by the founders of Bahia Visual, and despite being a first attempt, it was well received by media and film festivals. It was exhibited in cinemas throughout the country in 2014, received 14 official selections in national and international festivals, and won 3 awards in the documentary category. This documentary marked the beginning of Bahía Visual as a video production company and laid the foundations for authentic storytelling and attention to detail.

Aristobulo Lopez, known as Pepe in his small fishing community of Jurubirá, is the last harpooner of his generation. He wakes up at dawn in this remote region of the Colombian Pacific coast and starts sailing in his hand-made canoe to catch fishes from the bottom of the sea. Since childhood he learned from his father the proper technique to capture creatures with his harpoon, and to this day he keeps this legacy alive. Despite the small pay he receives for the big fishes he takes out of the sea, Jurubirá’s last harpooner lives his life with simplicity and a great sense of humor.

In this short 8-minute documentary, produced in 2018, we explore editing techniques to create a thrilling and action oriented style. We guide the viewer in an unpredictable way throughout the story, with fast pacing, jump cuts and immersive sound design. This project was acquired by the biggest national theater company of Colombia, Cine Colombia, and strengthened our skill as filmmakers and story hunters.
